Changing exam details

Changes in exams and course arrangements
You must tell us immediately if your exam subjects, modules or units, awarding or examining board, centre number or any other details change.

You must also inform the universities or colleges still considering your application or with which you are holding offers.

Universities or colleges usually base their conditional offers on your exam details. If your details change, they may change or withdraw their offers.

If a university or college cannot confirm your exam results because they do not have enough information, it may have serious consequences for your application.

Accident, illness or personal problems that affect your exam results
If you suffer an accident, illness or a personal problem that could affect your results, your referee should write to each university or college that is considering your application and ask them to take this into consideration.

You should send a supporting letter from your school or other authority and, in medical cases, from your doctor. You should send the details as soon as possible after the problem has arisen.

Don't wait until your exam results arrive.

Confirmation of my place

When the admissions tutor receives your exam results, your grades are checked to see if they match the conditions of the offer made to you. If you have got the right grades and you meet all the other conditions of the offer, your place will be confirmed.

An admissions tutor may decide to confirm your place even if you do not meet some of the conditions, particularly if you only narrowly fail to achieve the right grades.

We will normally give universities and colleges the examination results for the following:

  • GCE Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Extension Awards

  • VCE Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary and Double Award

  • Key Skills

  • SQA Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher

  • BTEC National Award, Certificate and Diploma

  • BTEC Higher National Certificate and Diploma

  • BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art & Design)

  • Irish Leaving Certificate

  • CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education

  • Music awards grades 6-8 from ABRSM, Guildhall, LCMM, Rockschool and Trinity

  • IFS Certificate in Financial Studies

  • International Baccalaureate (if the applicant has given consent)

  • Welsh Baccalaureate

  • CIE Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma (AICE)

If you are taking other types of exams, you must send a copy of your results as soon as you receive them to the college or university where you hold an offer.

You must meet the conditions of your offer by 31 August 2007, even if your offer is for deferred entry in 2008.

If you do not meet the conditions of a deferred entry offer, you will be informed that your application has not been successful. You will then become eligible for the 2007 clearing system. If you want to be considered for courses starting in 2008, you will have to apply again in the next application cycle, as long as you did not accept a place in Clearing.

If you cannot take your exams, for example because of illness, you will need to reapply for courses starting in 2008. You should contact the universities or colleges that you have applied to and let them know.

If you do not meet the conditions of all your offers, you are automatically eligible for Clearing. If you are a single-entry applicant you will have to pay £10 to enter Clearing. More details about this will automatically be posted to you at the relevant time.
