: Make sure you're secure

As with any internet site you need to make sure you use our resources securely. Following the advice below should ensure that your application with UCAS remains in safe hands:

"Phishing" emails

Phishing is the term given to emails that attempt to fraudulently obtain your security details.

The emails may look genuine and/or pretend to come from someone at UCAS or a university that you have applied to.

Such emails may ask you to reply with personal information, passwords or id numbers. Sometimes they may not be personally addressed, contain spelling and grammatical errors or may ask you to click on a link to a website.

UCAS does not ask applicants to provide personal information via email.

If you have received any emails regarding your application that you are unsure of, please contact UCAS on 0870 1122211, or contact the university or college concerned.

Passwords

Make sure that you keep your password and id details private. UCAS may ask you to provide password details by phone, but we won't ask you to provide password details by email.

Secure your PC

Make sure you keep the protective software on your computer up-to-date so that you are protected against the latest viruses and spyware. Ensure that you have a firewall to prevent people accessing your PC from the internet and if you are using a wireless network make sure that it has been set-up securely. If you are unsure about the security of your PC or network contact your manufacturer or service provider.
